Question 1

What is the best area to stay in Buenos Aires?

Accepted Answer

Palermo is the preferred choice for most international travellers: it has an excellent range of restaurants, bars, shops, and easy access to all attractions. Recoleta is ideal for those seeking a more elegant and quiet atmosphere, close to museums and the cemetery. San Telmo has great charm and is perfect for those who want to experience the bohemian, artistic side of the city.

Puerto Madero is modern and safe but more removed from local life. The microcentro (city center) is convenient for business but less recommended for leisure tourists due to its chaotic atmosphere on weekdays.

If you book a tour with DePasseios, our guides can give you personalized hotel, apart-hotel, and Airbnb recommendations based on your budget and preferences.

Question 2

Which neighborhoods should I not miss in Buenos Aires?

Accepted Answer

The essential neighborhoods for a first visit are: Palermo (dining, design, and nightlife), Recoleta (European architecture, museums, and the famous cemetery), San Telmo (market, Sunday fair, and tango), La Boca (Caminito and port culture), and Puerto Madero (modern riverside district).

If you want to go beyond the standard tourist circuit, Belgrano (Chinatown), Villa Crespo (emerging food and culture scene), and Colegiales (authentic local atmosphere) are excellent choices for discovering the Buenos Aires that exists outside mass tourism.

Our private city tour covers all the essential neighborhoods and, if you already know the city, we can put together a fully customized itinerary through the lesser-known areas.

Question 3

Can I pay for tours in dollars, euros, or by credit card?

Accepted Answer

Yes. At DePasseios we accept payment in USD, EUR, and all major international credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) through our secure website. By paying on our official website you avoid intermediary surcharges and access the lowest guaranteed price.

We also offer interest-free instalment payment options for some destinations and seasons. If you have any questions about payment methods, our team is available via WhatsApp to assist you.

Booking directly at depasseios.com saves you up to 25% compared to booking through Viator, GetYourGuide, or Civitatis. The service and guides are exactly the same.

Question 4

Is Buenos Aires expensive for foreign visitors?

Accepted Answer

For foreign travellers, Buenos Aires is one of the most affordable cities in South America. The favorable exchange rate for the dollar and euro makes accommodation, dining, and activities very accessible compared to other capitals.

Dinner at a good restaurant typically costs between USD 15 and USD 30 per person. A 4-hour private tour for a group of 2 costs less than a group tour in Europe. Public transport is very cheap and accommodation offers excellent value for money across all categories.

When paying in cash in dollars or euros at many shops and services, you get the parallel exchange rate (also known as the "blue" rate), which makes prices even more convenient for tourists.

Question 5

Can DePasseios create a custom itinerary for my group?

Accepted Answer

Yes, it's one of our most requested services. We can design a fully tailored itinerary based on your group's interests, available time, and size — from couples to groups of 20 or more.

The process is simple: contact us via WhatsApp or email, tell us who you are, how many days you have, and what you want to see or experience, and within 24 hours we'll send you a detailed proposal with itinerary, pricing, and availability. All custom tours include a bilingual guide and private transport.

Corporate groups, corporate incentive trips, and special events can also include exclusive activities such as private tango lessons, winery visits, or dinners at porteño family homes.

Question 6

Where to see authentic tango in Buenos Aires without overpaying?

Accepted Answer

The most authentic tango is not found in grand theaters with dinner included. It's in neighborhood milongas, especially in Almagro and Boedo — Wednesday and Thursday nights are the most lively. Entry to a milonga typically costs between USD 5 and USD 15 and includes introductory classes for beginners.

If you prefer a more produced show, the tango houses in San Telmo and downtown offer dinner with a live orchestra and professional dancers. It pays to compare prices and book ahead.

The difference between tourist tango and local tango lies in the dancers' shoes and the expressions on the audience's faces. At a real milonga, the attendees dance too. At a show, they only watch.

Question 7

How many days do you need to explore Buenos Aires?

Accepted Answer

It depends on your travel style. With 2 days you can do a complete city tour and visit the main neighborhoods. With 4 days you can combine the city with a day trip to the Delta del Tigre and still have time for dining and nightlife. With 7 days or more you can explore Buenos Aires in depth, make a getaway to Colonia del Sacramento or Montevideo, and discover less touristy neighborhoods.

If you're arriving by cruise ship and only have one day, the 4-hour private city tour is specially designed to cover the most important highlights efficiently.

We recommend not trying to do too much in a short time. Buenos Aires is a city best enjoyed on foot, taking your time in its historic cafés and local markets.

Question 8

What is the best time of year to visit Buenos Aires?

Accepted Answer

Spring (September to November) and autumn (March to May) are the best times to visit. The weather is mild and pleasant, ideal for walking and outdoor tours. Prices are also lower and there are fewer tourists than in peak season.

The Buenos Aires summer (December to February) can be very hot and humid with temperatures exceeding 35°C, although it coincides with the widest range of cultural events. Winter (June to August) is mild compared to the Northern Hemisphere and is ideal for museums, dining, and experiencing the most authentic porteño atmosphere.

For us, October and November are the perfect months: the jacaranda trees bloom in Palermo and Recoleta, the weather is ideal, and you can enjoy the city without the chaos of summer.

Question 9

Which are the safest neighborhoods for tourists in Buenos Aires?

Accepted Answer

The safest and most recommended neighborhoods for tourists are Palermo (the largest, with the best dining and design scene), Recoleta (European architecture, museums, and the famous cemetery), Puerto Madero (modern, by the river), Belgrano (residential and quiet), and the historic center of San Telmo during the day.

La Boca has a specific tourist zone — Caminito and its immediate surroundings — which is safe during the day. However, we do not recommend straying from that area or visiting the neighborhood at night without a guide.

Most incidents involving tourists happen when they venture beyond the tourist perimeter without local knowledge. Travelling with a guide eliminates that risk entirely.

Question 10

Is it safe to travel to Buenos Aires in 2025?

Accepted Answer

Buenos Aires is a safe city for tourists when you follow some basic precautions. The main tourist neighborhoods — Palermo, Recoleta, San Telmo, Puerto Madero, and Belgrano — have very low rates of serious crime and are well monitored. The most common risk is theft of phones or wallets in crowded areas, something easily avoided by staying alert.

We recommend not using your phone on the street without being in a safe spot, avoiding carrying original documents (use photocopies instead), taking taxis or Uber at night, and consulting your local guide about areas to avoid depending on the neighborhood and time of day.

When you travel with a DePasseios private guide, you have real-time local assistance throughout your entire tour. Our guides know the city in depth and will always advise you on which areas to avoid depending on the day and time.

Question 11

Can I cancel or modify my booking with DePasseios?

Accepted Answer

Yes. All DePasseios tours offer free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start date. If you cancel with more than 24 hours' notice, you receive a full refund with no penalties.

You can also change the date or time with at least 24 hours' notice, subject to availability. If you need to change your tour day with less notice, please contact us directly via WhatsApp and we'll evaluate the situation on a case-by-case basis.

If you're travelling during peak season (December–January or carnival week), we recommend booking at least 2 weeks in advance to secure guide availability.

Question 12

What is the difference between a private tour and a group tour?

Accepted Answer

A private tour means the guide works exclusively for your group — whether it's 2, 4, or 10 people. You can adjust the route in real time, stop whenever you want, ask as many questions as you like without time pressure, and set your own pace.

A group tour brings together between 10 and 30 strangers, follows a fixed itinerary with strict schedules, and the guide divides attention among all participants. The difference in experience quality is significant, especially for families with children, couples, or travellers with specific interests.

For groups of 3 or more, the per-person cost of a private tour is often the same as or less than a quality group tour. The advantage is that all the attention is yours.

Question 13

How much does a private tour in Buenos Aires cost?

Accepted Answer

Prices for private tours in Buenos Aires vary depending on the duration and type of experience. At DePasseios, tours are priced per group (not per person), which makes them very convenient for couples, families, or small groups.

The 4-hour private city tour starts from USD 120 per group. The Delta del Tigre tour starts from USD 200. The 9-hour city + Tigre combo starts from USD 129 per group.

By booking directly at depasseios.com you save the commissions charged by intermediary platforms (Viator, GetYourGuide), which can add up to 25% to the final price.

Question 14

What day trips can you do from Buenos Aires?

Accepted Answer

There are several excellent excursions within 2 hours of Buenos Aires. The Delta del Tigre is the most popular: just 45 minutes away, it offers navigation through the world's fifth largest delta, the town of San Isidro, and the picturesque Puerto de Frutos market. Colonia del Sacramento (Uruguay) is another gem: just 1 hour by ferry, it's a UNESCO World Heritage colonial city perfect for a full day trip.

Montevideo can also be done in a day (3 hours by high-speed ferry) although we recommend staying at least one night to truly enjoy it. The Pampas and cattle ranches (estancias) are also a unique option just 1–2 hours from the city.

DePasseios' Delta del Tigre tour includes 60–90 minutes of private navigation, a visit to San Isidro, and free time at Puerto de Frutos. It's the most booked excursion in our entire offer.

Question 15

How much tip should you leave in Buenos Aires?

Accepted Answer

In Argentina tipping is not mandatory but it is a common and greatly appreciated practice. In restaurants, the standard is between 10% and 15% of the total bill. In taxis tipping is not usual, though it's common to round up the fare.

For tour guides, a tip equivalent to 10–15% of the tour price is a much-appreciated way to recognize their work. There's no fixed rule but it's always welcome and reflects satisfaction with the service.

On DePasseios tours, the tip is not included and is not mandatory. If your guide exceeded your expectations, it's the best way to thank them directly.

Question 16

Can I go to a football match in Buenos Aires? How do I organize it?

Accepted Answer

Yes, it's an incredible and highly recommended experience — but you need to do it right. Boca Juniors and River Plate matches are the most sought after. Tourist tickets cannot be purchased at the stadium box office: you must go through an authorized agency that manages access and accompaniment inside the ground.

We strongly recommend avoiding the black market for tickets at any cost. Besides being illegal, the risk of fraud is very high. Through DePasseios we can guide you toward the safest and most reliable options based on the match calendar during your stay.

The Alberto J. Armando Stadium (La Bombonera) of Boca Juniors is one of the most intense sporting experiences in the world. The atmosphere is unmatched. You just need to go with the right organization.

Question 17

What should you eat in Buenos Aires? Must-try local dishes

Accepted Answer

Buenos Aires gastronomy is among the finest in South America. The must-tries are: asado (beef barbecue, the most Argentine ritual of all), empanadas (stuffed pastries with beef, chicken, or spinach), milanesa a la napolitana (a classic of traditional Buenos Aires taverns), choripán (at any street market), and alfajores filled with dulce de leche.

Buenos Aires also has a very sophisticated international food scene in Palermo, with world-class restaurants serving contemporary, Japanese, Peruvian, Italian, and Middle Eastern cuisine. And the historic cafés — Tortoni, Richmond, El Federal — are cultural landmarks worth visiting in their own right.

The best parrillas (steakhouses) are not in Puerto Madero. They're in neighborhoods like Villa Crespo, Palermo, and Parque Patricios. Ask your guide for the nearest "bodegón" for a 100% local experience.

Question 18

How to get around Buenos Aires? Subway, taxi, or Uber?

Accepted Answer

Buenos Aires has several transport options. The subte (metro) is efficient for crossing the city center but has limited coverage outside the downtown area. Taxis are reliable during the day — always ask the driver to use the meter. Uber works well across most of the city, though coverage can be limited in some peripheral areas.

For tours, DePasseios includes private transport in all itineraries: the guide picks you up at your hotel and drops you back at the end.

Avoid getting into taxis that are waiting in suspicious locations rather than in regular street traffic. The safest option is to request an Uber or book a taxi through an app (such as BA Taxi).

Question 19

Do you need to speak Spanish to travel to Buenos Aires?

Accepted Answer

It's not essential. In tourist neighborhoods, hotels, restaurants, and major attractions you will always find people who speak English. Signage in the subway and the most visited museums is also available in English.

However, speaking Spanish opens many more doors and makes the experience far richer, especially off the tourist circuit. With a DePasseios guide who speaks your language, you can move around with complete confidence from day one.

Learning 5 basic porteño phrases — "¿cómo andás?" (how are you?), "dale" (sure/let's go), "una birra" (a beer), "che" (hey), "¿cuánto sale?" (how much is it?) — creates an immediate and positive connection with locals.

Question 20

In which languages are DePasseios tours available?

Accepted Answer

All DePasseios tours are available in Spanish, English, and Brazilian Portuguese. Our guides are bilingual and some also speak Italian and French. When booking you can indicate your preferred language and we will assign the most suitable guide for your group.

If your group speaks more than one language, we can also arrange a multilingual tour with a guide capable of switching between languages throughout the experience.

Brazilian travellers represent the largest tourism market in Argentina. We have native Portuguese-speaking guides available to ensure the best possible experience.
